Interesting Wilkinson First Pattern F-S In Need Of Some TLC..!

An original, honest and correct circa 1941 Wilkinson First Pattern F-S Fighting Knife with early scabbard. This is an interesting knife, as the general condition of the hilt is very fine but the blade has been very poorly ground/sharpened and the etching panels have been filed off..! Perhaps this was done to ‘sterilize’ the knife? The blade also now shows a length of 6 3/8”. I think with a little TLC and some thoughtful restoration to the blade, this could still be a very handsome knife. The pommel nut is original and untouched and the grip and guard are solid and retain most of their original bright finish. The scabbard is interesting too, as it shows no signs of ever having had ‘wings’ fitted and the frog is from thicker than normal leather, still complete with it’s correct Newey snap-fastener. In the early days of Wilkinson’s scabbard production, scabbard parts were supplied to workers wives to assemble for piece work. Some of these early scabbards are known to have not had the wings attached, so it’s likely this example is one of those. If you can look past the blade’s poor condition, this is a very interesting knife & scabbard, wish some great potential to ‘present’ much nicer than it does now.
